A handful of endangered Kirtland's warblers have been found in central Wisconsin.
A pipeline worker discovered the warblers last year in a stand of young red pine trees.
State and federal agencies monitoring the site in Adams County having been trying to keep it secret to protect the rare birds.
But word has gotten out, and the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology recently held a lottery to choose members to make an early morning visit to hear and see the songbirds.
The winners saw one male flitting about the treetops.
Adult male Kirtland's warblers have blue gray plumage with black streaks. They weigh about half of an ounce.
