Mayor of Duluth, Minnesota Crashes Car, Cited for D.U.I. in Spooner

Duluth, Minnesota Mayor Herb Bergson crashed his car near Spooner, Friday night and was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says Bergson suffered minor cuts to his face and was taken to the Spooner Health Center after his vehicle struck a guard rail along U-S Highway 53 on his way to a conference in Chicago.

Bergson says in an e-mail to reporters that he was charged with operating while intoxicated.

He says he made a, quote "terrible error in judgment when I got behind the wheel."

Duluth City Councilor Russ Stewart says he was glad Bergson appeared all right.

Stewart called for people to forgive Bergson because the holidays are a season of forgiving.
