All regular unleaded gasoline sold in Wisconsin might have to contain 10 percent ethanol by next fall.
The Assembly approved the bill yesterday. It now heads to the Senate.
Supporters say the bill will save money at the pump, bolster farmers' corn sales and reduce the need for foreign oil.
People who oppose the bill say it will kill manufacturing jobs throughout the state.
They say it will lead to more air pollution forcing the DNR to compensate by reducing industry emissions.
A spokeswoman for Governor Doyle says he thinks it's a good bill for Wisconsin.
