Wisconsin Again Last In The Nation Offering Free School Breakfasts To Low-Income Kids

Got breakfast? For low-income kids, Wisconsin schools say "no" more than schools in any other state do.

The Washington-based Food Research and Action Center says Wisconsin ranks last in the country when it comes to low-income kids who get free breakfasts. It's the third year in the row that Wisconsin has ranked last.

The report says last year 26.5 % of Wisconsin students eligible for subsidized lunch also got breakfast in school. That's compared to 13 states where more than 50% get breakfast.

The federal government covers most of the cost of the breakfasts. Many educators say breakfast helps kids learn more throughout the day, and this program helps low-income kids who might not otherwise eat breakfast
