TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER AN APARTMENT FIRE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF EAU CLAIRE TONIGHT.
FIREFIGHTERS SAY IT BROKE OUT IN THE UPSTAIRS UNIT OF THIS APARTMENT BUILDING ON CONRAD AND CARPENTER AROUND SIX-THIRTY TONIGHT. RESCUE CREWS SAY FOUR PEOPLE WERE IN THE UNIT, A THREE YEAR OLD AND HIS MOTHER WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. HOWEVER, THE BATTALION CHIEF WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE THE EXTENT OF THEIR INJURIES. THE TWO OTHER PEOPLE IN THAT APARTMENT GOT OUT UNHARMED. IT TOOK FIREFIGHTERS AN HOUR TO GET THE BLAZE UNDER CONTROL. EAU CLAIRE DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF DAVID GEE ESTIMATES THE DAMAGE AT $30,000. " WE STOPPED IT BEFORE IT WENT INTO THE ATTIC AND ADJACENT UNITS," GEE SAID. EVERYONE IN THE APARTMENT COMPLEX WAS EVACUATED BUT PEOPLE ARE BEING LET BACK INTO THEIR HOMES TONIGHT. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION, BUT FIREFIGHTERS THINK IT STARTED IN A BEDROOM CLOSET.
