Wisconsin customers of Xcel Energy will pay more for electric and natural gas service starting next month, under a rate increase approved by state regulators. Xcel is the utility serving Eau Claire and La Crosse and most of western and northwestern Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission has granted the Minneapolis-based utility an eleven percent increase in electric rates and a 2.5% increase in natural gas rates.
For a typical residential customer who uses 750 kilowatt-hours a month, that'll mean an electric bill that's $8.50 higher. Average natural gas customers using 65 therms a month will see a monthly increase of $2.25.
The utility says the rate increases were needed for system improvements and to cover higher costs for power and fuel.
