Onalaska Teen May Have Committed Suicide; Charged In Stabbing Case

An Onalaska teen who was accused of stabbing his father and brother is believed to have committed suicide while behind bars.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department says 17-year-old Kirk Gunderson was found unresponsive in his cell early this morning. Jail staff found him during a routine check and performed CPR but Gunderson didn't survive.

The Sheriff's Department says a preliminary investigation indicates the death was a suicide. An autopsy has been scheduled.

The teen was arrested at his Onalaska home in June and faced charges of attempted murder. He was scheduled to appear at a plea hearing later this week.
