This is ludicrous. Stanton Glantz, professional anti-smoker activist, did a "study" supposedly proving that 53,000 people per year die from secondhand smoke. He submitted it to the EPA; the EPA found it lacking in merit, and declined to use it. Later, he got his 53,000 number into a huge anti-smoking ad that was sponsored by, among others, the American Cancer Society. (Since it was anti-smoking, it's possible the ACS threw in its sponsorship without ever looking at the ad). Onward: An investigation ensued; the ACS gave the Environmental Protection Agency credit for the 53,000; the investigation continued. Finally, the ACS admitted there was no such EPA study. The ACS made no retraction; no apology; the spokesperson just said they would give credit to Stanly (sic) Glantz, the man whose "study" the EPA had found unworthy of use. Now R.J. Reynolds and the Surgeon General are bruiting the 53,000 about? Glantz must be quite a guy. No wonder his "lectures" are making him rich.
Next thing is going to be alcohol, that or them telling us what we can and cant eat. I mean really, if you dont like smoke in bars, dont go to the bars.
Phillip Morris (see www.PhillipMorrisUSA.com) and the Surgeon General of the United States (see 2006 Surgeon General Report) both agree on one thing - Second Hand Smoke kills approximately 53,000 non-smokers in the U. S. every year. The REAL issue is: should Business Owners be allowed to continue to pollute the air with a pollution that has been proven to do this? 34 States and hundreds of other cities have said "NO". Like it or not - the writing is on the wall. Do you really want your kids and grandkids breathing this pollution for the rest of their lives? Or do you want to leave them a cleaner world in which to live in?
Blow second hand smoke on a twenty dollar bill and drop it,see if a nonsmoker will pick it up or call the health department to have it disposed of.
A ban can't happen soon enough. Since when can't smokers wait to smoke outside after their meal. Their smoke harms other people who are in the same building. Most states already have a statewide ban in effect. Why is the Wisconsin legislature so slow to act?
Bring it on!!!
Only fifteen people? Bar and restaurant owners are making the same mistake that we made in Illinois. You need to pay attention to what's happeing. There's a well funded "war on smokers". You snooze, you lose.
