Two Winona State University Coaches Injured In Crash

Two Winona State University coaches have been upgraded to fair condition after a crash with a woman suspected of drunken driving.

Winona police say a car driven by football coach Tom Sawyer was broadsided by an SUV early Wednesday. He and his passenger, women's volleyball coach Connie Mettille are hospitalized in La Crosse.

Sawyer and Mettille had been in serious condition.

Prosecutors say they may file charges against the other driver, an 18-year-old Winona woman who wasn't hurt. Police say her blood-alcohol level measured 50% over the legal limit.

Prosecutor Nancy Bostrack says she'll likely charge the woman with criminal vehicular injury, drunken driving, underage drinking and driving, and running a stop sign.
