Mike Tice says his meeting with Minnesota Vikings owner Zigi Wilf was emotional, with both Wilf and Tice shaken by the decision not to renew Tice's contract.
The Vikings fired Tice after Sunday's 34-to-10 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Wilf made the announcement less than an hour after the end of the regular season finale. The announcement came in a news release after most players had left the Metrodome.
In the announcement, Wilf said:
"After significant evaluation, we feel that now is the time to make a coaching change." Wilf was gone when the statement was issued to media in the locker room and he scheduled a news conference for Monday.
Pro Bowl kick returner Koren Robinson called the manner of the announcement "crazy." He said Wilf should have had respect enough to wait until Monday and let Tice enjoy the win.
