Murderer Could Get Approval To Live In Dane County

The state has asked a Rock County judge to approve placement of a man who killed his sister in an undisclosed home in Dane County.
Mark Staskal was found not guilty by reason of mental disease in stabbing death of his 16-year-old sister, Marcy, at their parents' Milton home in 1984. Staskal was sent to Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison and in 2007 Judge Michael Byron ordered him released conditionally.
The state Department of Health and Family Services has been unable to find a place for Staskal to live. He was placed in a group home in Eau Claire last summer, but neighbors, police and politicians complained to the state about his placement. Several weeks later he was removed from the city.
The state Monday asked Byron to approve Staskal's community placement in Dane County without listing a specific housing provider or address. There was no immediate decision.
