Mike Sherman Fired by Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers have fired coach Mike Sherman.

Sherman finished with a regular-season record of 53-and-27. That ties Steelers coach Bill Cowher for fifth among NFL coaches in their first 80 games.

Thompson declined to say which factors influenced his decision, but he says the team's record wasn't a factor. He also said he didn't discuss the decision with Brett Favre.

The Packers closed their season with a win over Seattle Sunday night as Brett Favre threw his first touchdown pass in five games, but that still left them with a 4-and-12 record.
