The man accused of killing his wife at their Neillsville home two years ago could soon be returned from Illinois to face a murder charge.
Police say 30-year-old Vickie Peterson was stabbed to death late on the night of New Year's Eve in 2003 or early the next day, when her body was found. Her two-month-old son was found uninjured in the home.
Meanwhile, her husband Daniel Peterson was arrested the same day in Des Plaines, Illinois. Police say he tried to rob a branch bank in a grocery store and threatened two police officers with a knife and was shot by one of them.
Now the 34-year-old Peterson has reached a plea deal and been sentenced in Illinois to an eight-year prison term.
He's still facing a charge of first-degree intentional homicide in Wisconsin, so Clark County District Attorney Darwin Zwieg says he'll go ahead with plans to seek Peterson's return to face that charge.
