Pelicans Visit Eau Claire County

A group of American white pelicans made an unusual stop in the Chippewa Valley Thursday morning.
Photographer Jeff Ralph caught a group on camera in Fall Creek Thursday morning.
Ed Culhane with the DNR says this may be a group of young pelicans looking for fish.
The only known Wisconsin breeding sites are on the other side of the state.
Culhane says the pelicans herd small fish into shallow water where they can scoop up the fish with those famous bills.
White pelicans have wingspans up to 9 feet and can weigh 16 pounds.
