Wisconsin Governor Returns Lobbyist Campaign Donation

Governor Doyle is returning a $1,000 in campaign contributions from an associate of Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Abramoff pleaded guilty earlier this month to felony charges in a political corruption investigation. He's agreed to tell the FBI about alleged bribes to lawmakers and their aides.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign says Abramoff colleague Alan Slomowitz gave Doyle the donation in 2003.

Slomowitz has not been implicated in the Abramoff scandal. But Doyle campaign manager Rich Judge says the intense scrutiny surrounding the whole scandal prompted the governor to give back the money.

State Representative Tom Nelson of Kaukauna also said today he will return $200 he received from another Abramoff associate.
