"Metropolitan Police Force" Suggested For La Crosse Urban Area
Officials in the La Crosse area are considering forming a metropolitan police department.
But there are already skeptics.
A fully consolidated metropolitan police department would fuse law enforcement in La Crosse and neighboring Onalaska, West Salem and Holmen into a centralized agency.
A partial consolidation could merge some resources and reduce duplication.
Community leaders and police chiefs say a consolidated police force won't have their support if it can't increase quality of service and keep taxes stable or lower them.
