Traction Tool Helps Seniors

During the winter months we are surrounded by ice and packed snow, which means we're in danger of slipping on it.
Hundreds of people in Wisconsin die every year after they slip and fall. People over 65 are at the highest risk for a fatal fall. That's why the Eau Claire County Department on Aging and Resource Center is doing what it can to prevent folks from falling. This winter, seniors are getting in-home demonstrations of Yaktrax walkers, a slip-on grip for shoes.
Lisa Wells, who coordinates the fall prevention program says, "wisconsin has the second highest death rate from falls that's why we're hoping by promoting the yaktrax walker along with a fall prevention program that we can prevent these falls."
The Yaktrax run about 20 dollars, Scheels All Sports or the Northern Safari Army Navy story in Eau Claire sell the product. You can also contact the Departmen on Aging at (715) 839-4735
