Govenor: Will Not Return Donations In Connection With No-Bid Contracts

Governor Doyle's campaign says there's no connection between political donations and no-bid contracts awarded to seven companies.

The Associated Press found employees of at least seven companies gave to the governor's campaign around the time their firms were awarded no-bid contracts worth more than 46 million dollars.

The donations totaled more than $30,000.

Campaign spokeswoman Melanie Fonder says the governor has never tied state work to political contributions.

He returned $10,000 in donations from executives of a Manitowoc company that came in three days after the firm won a more than one million-dollar grant.

Fonder says the campaign reviews all donations and has no plans to return those identified in the AP review.
