A longtime Eau Claire Police captain who spent the last nine years with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department has been killed while on duty in a three vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Jackson County.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says 62 year-old deputy Stephen Hahn was killed just before nine Thursday morning. The state patrol says a truck in the opposite lane lost control and hit Hahn's van. Then a semi truck hit the van. The crash is under investigation.
Hahn is a long-time law enforcement officer in the Chippewa Valley. He was a captain with the Eau Claire Police Department, and retired from there in 1997. He's been serving as a deputy with the sheriff's department for nine years. He was a transport officer, who moved prisoners from place to place.
Hahn is the first deputy ever killed while on duty with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department.
