To decide the sectional title for hockey, the Eau Claire teams are playing Friday afternoon.
While some might see the earlier time of a 4:00 puck-drop as a deterrent against out of control behavior, last year's sectional was also in the afternoon. The principal of North says whenever the cross-town rivals meet, regardless of the sport, there are more safeguards put in place.
"Anytime you fill an arena of highly revved fans, security is increased and it certainly is easier to control the environment at 4:00 in the afternoon than it may be at 7:00 or 7:30 at night," says Principal Tom Fiedler.
"We don't anticipate any problems," says Dep. Chief Brad Venaas. "I think it's again, just a responsibility as a police department to insure the event is safe."
Six police officers, which include the two school liaison officers, along with staff, will be on hand as security for the game.
