The federal government is providing workshops in our area and through out the state to provide advice on trying to make homes disaster resistant.

Ed Edahl from the Federal Emergency Management Agency says the workshop will be at Menards in La Crosse (223 Lang Dr.) starting Tuesday, July 7th and they’ll be there until the 14th.

Agents will be at the workshop from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.

They're already at the Menards in Onalaska until Monday, July 7th.

He says FEMA representatives will be giving several tips to improve home flooding resistance.

For example, they recommend using water proofing sealant and paints on basement walls and floors, installing a backwater valve on sewer lines and adding an extra sump pump.
