A report released Monday says more than 7,200 deaths in Wisconsin are related to smoking each year.
Those deaths include lung cancer, heart disease and fires caused by smoking materials.
The study says tobacco accounts for 17% of all deaths in the state. The number of Wisconsin adults who smoke still hovers around 22%.
Wisconsin has about one million smokers, out of a population of 5.8 million residents.
The University of Wisconsin Tobacco Surveillance and Evaluation Program is a partner in the study.
