Really? Does it make more sense to call him an idiot or wish him get well. Everyone makes mistakes. Give him a break I am sure he learned his lesson and hold back your negative comments and wish him a good recovery. Good Luck Darren.

Incomplete information in this story, yet some seem to know all the amswers. Huh. Was the firework Class C or Class B? What exactly happened_shell explode in tube, shell break just out of the tube, no tube? Flip-flops? Always cover yourself with leather footwear and 100% cotton clothing, as they will burn, but not melt to you. Sounds like these two had no idea about how to use fireworks safely. Did you know that the use of sparklers causes more injuries each year than Class B display fireworks (the type one must have a federal license to purchase/possess)? That innocuous little stand of powder-coated wire....

You may be required by law to have an explosive permit to set off fireworks, yes! But, the illegal fireworks are sold everywhere in Wisconsin, even in your local stores. They sell them without ever blinking an eye!!!!!!!! That's where the fines and laws should be focusing!!! But, as usual, it's easier to fine the people setting them off rather than fining the source!!!!!!!!

Should they get an honorable mention in the Darwin Awards?

The mans a idiot, we all know fireworks aren't to be played with and are against the law.

Being that he did not lite the fire work himself or had no idea it was going to go off What fine? This article surely seems to just be a awarrness message! Don't you t think the person who lite it off should hold some responsibilty? I think people at this point should focusing on that he recovers well and then the other issues should be addressed. On that note good luck to the guy in this artical.

Ya- his cousin should really pay for what he's done. Lit illegal fireworks AND blew apart Darren's foot. Geez.

How come no mention of the fines that this should recieve. It ILLEGAL to discharge any fireworks that fly into the air without a permit per Wisconsin Statutes Section 167.10.
