Officers in Winona, Minnesota say two men used a piece of wood to beat up a couple in town early on Tuesday.
Neighbors say police told them the victims were targeted around 3 a.m.
KAGE radio reports that on the 650 block of West Fourth Street, the couple woke up when the suspects knocked on their door.
A 55-year old woman was jumped when she answered, tied up, and beaten, then her 57-year old husband was attacked when he tried to stop it.
Officers say one of the men had a run-in with the couple just days ago.
Neighbors call their part of town a quiet neighborhood.
Nothing from the home was stolen. Police are withholding the couple's names and have yet to describe the suspects.
