Midwest Airlines says it will reduce its work force by 1,200 people as it takes a dozen MD-80 jets from service.
The company says the cuts represent about 40% of the staff at Midwest and its Skyway subsidiary.
It will start notifying affected workers Monday. Most jobs will end by mid-September.
The company says it's still talking with pilots and flight attendant's unions.
The sides are negotiating deals on concessions that are needed to cut costs.
