Past Murders in Eau Claire

Friday’s stabbing is the first murder in almost six years in Eau Claire. Police say all three of the most recent murders are unsolved. According to our records, the most recent solved murder in the city was almost a decade ago.

In September of 2002, the Eau Claire Police Department says a city maintenance crew found 39-year-old Joseph Proulx's body in the basement of an abandoned home on Wisconsin Street.
The medical examiner's office listed his cause of death as blunt force trauma.

On January 6, 2001, 22-year-old Angelina Wall's body was found near Fall Creek. She was last seen along Birch Street in Eau Claire as she walked home. Investigators say wall was strangled to death.

In February of 2000, Kathleen Thompson was found strangled to death on her wedding night in Eau Claire. Her ex-boyfriend and former Augusta Police Officer Evan Zimmerman went to trial twice and the charges were eventually dropped.

In June of 1998, a 13 year old was charged with murder after she admitted to killing her baby in a YMCA bathroom.

In October of 1996, Greg Pate shot and killed three people, 27-year-old Roman Borntregger, 21-year-old Patricia Best and Best's son one-year-old Dakota Brummond. The criminal complaint says Pate was upset about a prior relationship with Best.

A couple months earlier, in May 1996, 52-year-old Warren Carlton stabbed 51-year-old Sally Anderson. The district attorney says it was a random attack and Carlton later killed himself at a mental health facility.
