It's something of a dog fight in Brookfield, where residents are arguing over a proposal to limit the number of pets per household.
Opponents say the city should not limit the number of dogs people can own but better enforce existing rules governing pet owners.
Other residents say limits are needed to protect neighbors from irresponsible pet owners who take in too many dogs and cats.
Brookfield residents had long complained about one resident's dog rescue operation before a judge recently declared it an illegal business.
Brookfield aldermen are now considering a proposal to limit households to four dogs and cats total. Pet owners could have only three of each animal.
Brookfield is one of only six Waukesha and Milwaukee county communities without a limit on dogs.
