As the summer vacation season begins to wind down, so does the demand for gas. Slowly, gas prices also fall.

For drivers like Brian Lieberg, it's a bit of a relief.

"We drive my son for baseball all around every weekend, so that means fifty or sixty bucks every week."

With his hectic family schedule, Lieberg can't really adjust his driving or spending habits just because of the price of gas.

He says an extra ten cents off of the gas price is not going to help his finances that much. Other drivers agree.

“If it was down to under $2 a gallon, I'd be happy,” says Scott Jurdee. “But you still got to get it.”

The Wisconsin Petroleum Council says there are fewer people on vacation now, and that's driving the demand and price down.

The price for a barrel of oil has dropped from $140 the week of the Fourth of July, to $127 this week.

Still, those hitting the road can't deny, a little something is better than nothing.

“I like it,” says Mario Medrano. “It’s better than $4.10. It's good.”

Erin Roth of the Wisconsin Petroleum Council says gas prices generally drop as the summer fades, so we could be looking at a trend.

However, any problems from hurricanes hitting refineries to political issues in the Middle East can send prices back up.

But there’s a simple way to figure out the price of crude oil.

There’s 42 gallons of oil in each barrel. Take the price of a barrel of crude oil, and divide it by 42, and you’ll get the base price of a gallon of gas, before taxes and other fees.
