Work on Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire has reached the half-way point.

Starting Sunday night, drivers will switch from the eastbound to the westbound lanes on Clairemont Avenue.

And some businesses – including Morgan Music – say they’ll feel the impact of that switch.

"Our business is on the south side, so depending on how they route traffic we may be in for a little vacation next week,” said Manager Gregg Morgan.

So even before the switch, Morgan says he prepared for slower sales.

"In fact, starting this Sunday (July 27) we're closing on Sundays,” he said. “Haven't done that for 25 years."

But Sunday’s traffic switch won’t just impact businesses. Project leaders say it could also tack on a few extra minutes to your trip – at least for the first few days.

"I think Sunday night things will go a little slower,” said Project Manager Ross Johnson. “That's actually why we're doing it on a Sunday is to pick a day of the week where traffic is a little bit less on Clairemont Avenue. Little bit safer for our workers, little bit less congestion for people to get through the work zone on Sunday."

Johnson says you could also see more red and blue among the white and orange.

"We also expect to see a little more police surveillance to help us out on Sunday too,” Johnson said. “Just to get people to slow down and be aware of the work zone.”

And that nice new pavement will give you a sneak-peek of what’s to come.

"The old pavement was in pretty bad condition and I think people will be pleased with the end result. Definitely worth the wait."

Even with the switch, Johnson says most of the bike trails along Clairemont Avenue will stay closed.

We’re told all this construction should be finished by early November.
