There is still no end to the Bill Klaus contract controversy.
The Eau Claire School Board met for the 11th time in closed session Monday night; this time with former Superintendent Bill Klaus.
The meeting lasted for four hours before the board went into deliberations. Board members deliberated two and a half more hours, before ending Monday night's meeting around 12:30 a.m.
Klaus' Attorney Tom Guelzow says he isn't sure what decision the board will make, but says he feels Klaus should not receive any punishment.
"We put our deal on the table. The deal being what we brought in what we thought they should hear so they could make their decision. We're not talking deal, we're talking about what our facts are and what we think the basis for our defense is and so they've heard that," Guelzow said.
Before Monday, the board had already met ten times to try and figure out if there was any wrong doing with how Klaus' contract was written and backdated. It would have allowed him to receive retirement money earlier than expected. No money was ever given out.
School Board President Carol Craig has said the board is anxious to give the public a full accounting of what it has been working on. She says she thought Monday’s meeting may have been the last.
The board will meet again behind closed doors Monday, August 4 at 7 a.m. Klaus will not be at that meeting.
