Hall County officials say two people have been arrested in connection to the deaths of 23 dogs.

A 50-year-old Grand Island man is waiting to be charged Monday with being an accessory to a felony.

Also arrested was an Iowa woman, 45-year-old Denise Withee, of Mapleton. She was cited on three counts of animal abandonment and is awaiting charges.

Authorities say a farmer checking his crops found the dog bodies in a cornfield northeast of Grand Island.

Twenty carcasses were found and three live dogs. Two died a short time after, and the third died on the way to a veterinary hospital.

A microchip implanted in one dog led authorities to the woman.

An oral syringe was found, and tests are being done to determine the type of liquid the syringe contained.
