Feeling the Sting of Lower Wages

A local college may feel the sting of losing staff because of low wages.
Cary Heyer with the UW-La Crosse says the school's pay scale is well below the national average.
He says the same is also true within most of the UW System. Heyer says UWL does not have any staffing issues right now, but, as old faculty members retire, he says it may be hard to attract new staff.
One of the biggest problems? Heyer says about 75% of UW-La Crosse's staff is not from the area. And if another college is closer to their home offers more money, he says the university just can't compete.
Heyer says the quality of the administration and teaching staff may go down if pay doesn't go up.
