Real estate agents say the cost of gas is putting a damper on home sales in some rural areas.
Madison real estate agent Mindy Allen says many prospective buyers are looking to limit their commuting costs and location is often the first thing they mention.
Keller Williams agent Dan Miller says home sales are down in Madison but have dropped even more in outlying communities such as Baraboo, Lake Mills and Poynette.
Anne Ruzicka knows about buyer's remorse. She bought a home in Prairie du Sac in April and now commutes 50 miles round trip to work at the University of Wisconsin Hospital.
With gas up an average of 80 cents per gallon over the price a year ago, Ruzicka is looking at spending about $500 more a year to commute.
