Eau Claire -- (WEAU) Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy any outdoor activities on Saturday, today looks to be more of an indoor day. Or at least have an umbrella handy as we may see some scattered rain showers on and off throughout the day.
A weak front to the northwest overnight, brought some severe weather to areas to the north. Reports of a possible funnel cloud near Chetek. The National Weather Service did have Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings on these storms at one point due to some radar indicated rotation. I also saw pictures of impressive lightning and some slightly larger than golf ball sized hail.
This morning clouds will increase once again expect little sunshine and breezy winds from the northwest. As a secondary front slides in from the north, more showers are likely into the afternoon. That front will also cool things down a bit as afternoon temperatures struggle to reach the mid 70s for most of western Wisconsin. A rumble or two of thunder can be expected this afternoon and evening but the storms look to move out of our area before sundown.
Another round of dry weather returns through the first half of next week with high pressure returning from the west, but it will stay cool for late July, with a large upper trough centered to our east over the Great Lakes. The flow will remain from the northwest keeping highs in the 70s, something we've seen many times this month. A slow warm up should get us back to around 80 by the end of next week as well as the return of some rain chances.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
