State lawmakers will review Wisconsin’s new mercury emission rules this week.
They call for Wisconsin utilities to slash emissions by 90% during the next decade.
The state says the limits mean cleaner air.
Environmentalists say the rule is too weak.
Businesses are also complaining; they say utilities will have to spend tens of millions of dollars to comply and that will drive up their electric bills.
The Republican-controlled Assembly Natural Resources Committee will hold a public hearing Wednesday on the rules.
