Stanley man killed in Clark Co. crash

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE) -- Clark County authorities are investigating a one vehicle crash that took the life of the driver. On August 23rd 2014, at about 7:50 PM, the Clark County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call of an accident on Copenhaver Ave south of Broek Road in the Township of Worden.

Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle was traveling north on Copenhaver Ave when it crested a hill and met two ATV’s parked in a field by the shoulder. The operator lost control after passing the ATV’s and entered the east ditch. The vehicle flipped several times and ejected the driver, Jessie L. Fitzl 38 years old from Stanley. The vehicle came to rest in a field east of the roadway. Jessie was found in the east ditch several hundred feet to the north of the vehicle. Initial Officers on scene started life saving efforts upon finding Jessie. The operator was transported to the Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley where he died from his injuries.

The operator was not wearing his seatbelt and speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The Thorp Area Ambulance and Fire Department, the Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Stanley Police Department responded to the scene. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Coroner Richard Schleifer is continuing the investigation into the crash. This is the fifth fatality for Clark County in 2014.
