A three-vehicle crash killed one person and blocked off part of the interstate for several hours Friday.
It happened around 1:30 Friday afternoon on Interstate 39 in Stevens Point. Portage County deputies say a vehicle driving north veered off the road, crossed the median into the south lane and crashed into two other vehicles.
A fire broke out, which one witness says sent flames about 30 feet into the air. One person died at the scene. Two others were taken to the hospital.
The south lanes of 39 between US 10 and WI 66 were shut down for about three hours while crews cleared the scene.
