The Eau Claire Rod and Gun Park was abuzz Sunday when Barack Obama stopped by, and some dedicated supporters got to see and even meet the man they hope will win the White House this fall.
"My jaw hit the ground, shock, awe, euphoric, thrilled, stunned, all the adjectives I could think of," Scott Campbell says. He thought he was lucky to see the candidate, but he was even more surprised when he found out he was chosen to introduce democratic presidential candidate.
"It's the experience of a lifetime," he says.
The lifelong democrat says he's been pulling for the senator from the start, going door-to-door campaigning around Eau Claire.
"I know no other way," he says.
And he says it's easy to do, now that he's met the senator.
But another man who was at Sunday's event, Jim Camery of River Falls, says he hasn't always been on the Obama train.
"I thought Hillary Clinton would do a good job, but she's not the nominee, so let's go with this one," he describes his political decision making process.
In the past few months, Camery has jumped on board—he’s even housing a member of the Obama campaign team.
He says he had no trouble changing his support, and thinks Obama's platform and personality can unify more than just the Democratic party.
"He's a special sort of person who we think could do a lot to bring parts of the country together that have sort of fallen apart," says Camery.
And Campbell says the man he’s seen on TV giving speeches is the same man he met in real life.
"Just wonderfully sincere, down to earth, genuinely interested in myself, my family, and the common person around here,” says Campbell.
Both men say they'll cherish the memories of today for as long as they live.
Another long-time, local Obama supporter we spoke to says the guest list for this event was unique, because it featured people who gave their time, not their money, to the campaign, and that many families also came because of the Sunday afternoon barbecue atmosphere.
