A Belle Plaine, Minnesota man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for fatally shooting his eight-year-old son in a hunting accident.

Anthony Klaseus was also sentenced to ten years of probation plus 80 hours of community service for each of the next five years. His community service will include speaking about hunting safety.

Klaseus and his son, Hunter, were hunting turkeys April nineteenth when he mistook the boy for a turkey and shot him in the chest. The boy was wearing camouflage clothing, and authorities found alcohol and traces of marijuana in the father's system.

Klaseus pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on June nineteenth.

I read this article in the mpls paper yesterday, this man pleaded guilty to 2nd degree manslaughter, he admitted his guilt and he gets 30 days in the county jail, not even prison, the county jail. I have lost all faith in our legal system. Not only is he only serving 30 days, but he gets out during the day for work release, this means he has to sleep in the county jail for 30 nights well his son never gets to really appreciate how beautiful life is. I'm sure this dad is going thru his own version of hell, but come on judges, we need to teach people that there are actually consequences for CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, and you wonder why the crime rate is so high. What are we telling people who break the law, everyone knows what a joke probation is, so he has to meet with his probation officer once a week maybe, oh the punshiment, how will this poor man survive. 2nd Degree manslaughter-30 nights in jail. GET REAL JUDGE, HE WAS LEGALLY DRUNK WHEN HE KILLED HIS KID, HE NEEDED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABL

Hopefully this man is also ordered to speak of his situation at Drug/Alcohol rehab places as well. A situation as such may be just one more reason for a parent to think about staying clean. Sad situation. Feel bad for everyone involved. As far as his sentence, people get convicted on premeditated multiple slayings and get very little time also so if you take this trajic "accident" in perspective with other crimes/sentences, is isn't that outragous. It was an accident, I'm sure he loved his son and just knowing what he did will be a life sentence he will live with everyday. I pray for this man. I couldn't imagine having to live with something like this.

this is truely a sad world we live in. what is wrong with the justice system? the lawyers and judges need to have their heads examined for not properly doing their job and slapping this guy on the hands for killing his own kid....sad

30 days? What a joke!!! The poor little boy died because his DAD was on drugs & alcohol. The judge should be out hunting with him!!!!!
