"Empty Boots" Display Near Republican Convention In St. Paul

Empty combat boots -- symbolizing Upper Midwest soldiers killed in Iraq -- will be on display today on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds.

The "Eyes Wide Open" exhibit is timed to the Republican National Convention going on at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The display features 355 pairs of combat boots representing soldiers from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and North Dakota who have died as a result of the Iraq war.

There also will be a display of 18 pairs of boots donated by Gold Star families around the country that were worn by their dead family members.
