The Mall of America is pitching in to help victims of Hurricane Gustav.

The Bloomington mall says it will donate 50 percent of net proceeds from ticket sales at its amusement park, Nickelodeon Universe, through Friday to the relief fund.

Underwater Adventures Aquarium at the Mall of America also will donate 20 percent of the full-price admission proceeds through Friday to the fund.

Mall officials hope to raise even more money with the thousands of visitors in the Twin Cities for this week's Republican National Convention.

Gustav has since weakened to a tropical depression after making landfall in southern Louisiana as a hurricane.

How many times is the rest of the country going to be asked to bail out a city that should not exist? Three years after Katrina and just a category two hurricane comes over the levies. Maybe it is time to rethink the situation.
