A retired prosecutor went shopping in the $1 dollar book bin at the Shawano City County Library's annual sale and found a treasure.

Former Shawano County District Attorney Fred Eberlein says he bought John Marshall's book "The Life of George Washington" printed in the early 1800s for $1 and discovered it's worth at least $7,500 after having it appraised.

Eberlein wonders if library staff check the books they sell. Shawano County Board member Deb Noffke wonders too and is concerned about lost revenue for the library.

The interim library director says they receive hundreds of book donations for their annual sale. She says they don't usually have time to sort through and check each book's value.

maybe hire someone to check book values so the library don't lose revenue. it may cost alittle to pay someone but it maybe worth it in the end.

A county board member is concerned about lost revenue from this book BEFORE they found out that there was value to it. So is the county and the library going to have a lawsuit against the lucky individual for $7499? It's the land of ridiculous lawsuits...they would probably win. All of a sudden they say we lost money because of this. They missed the boat on that book because they didn't bother to take the time to check what books come in for their book sale. So why should the person who was fortunate enough to find this book donate money back to the library? It's not his fault the library wasn't aware of this book and its' value. Sounds like a book that belongs in a museum or personal library collection. Wish I was lucky enough to find a needle in the haystack like that.

Now I hope that he is going to donate some of thay back to the library! That would be the right thing to do! Well that is if he plans to sell it.
