A series of break-ins around rural Neillsville and Hatfield have people living there concerned.
A local Neillsville area man whose home was broken into, spoke with us, but did not want to be identified, he said he “lost an entry door with the burglars, they used a hammer to break in, there’s the remains of the door, and they stole various CD tapes, and they left exiting the basement through a patio door,” and that he was,” very unhappy, angry, pretty tense in the household. “
Liz Strangfeld lives just down the road.
She says she's nervous now a days too, “it's a little bit scary, I don't like being home alone very much.”
Jim Backus, the Chief Deputy of Clark County, says the burglars hit homes in two areas just northwest of Neillsville and some seasonal cabins near Hatfield.
He says, “the most recent burglaries reported this week, happened right around the noon hour, within an hour and a half-2 hour period.”
Because of this short time frame, Backus says the sheriff's department believes the robbers either may know the burglary victims or may be watching them.
Backus says the burglars near Neillsville are usually taking electronics, while the robberies around Hatfield include alcohol, weapons and electronics.
He says the sheriff's department currently has a few persons of interest, but right now it is still in the process of gathering and studying evidence.
Backus told me its very important to always keep doors locked during the daytime, and to make sure that garage doors are closed as well as keeping basement windows shut and locked.
Backus also said if you see any suspicious activity or unusual cars in the area, do not hesitate to call their tip line at 1-888-tip-clso, or 1-888-847-2576.
Of course you can also always call 9-1-1.
