WIS. PRIMARY
If state elections officials are correct, only one or two voters out of 10 will go to the polls today.
The state's primary election is today; polls opened at 7 a.m. and close 8 p.m. statewide. In Western Wisconsin, there's a primary race between two Libertarian Party candidates running for the 3rd Congressional Seat. The winner and the lone Republican Party candidate will face Democratic incumbent representative Ron Kind of La Crosse in November.
But state officials predict only a 15 percent turnout among eligible Wisconsin voters.
That's less than half the turnout in February, when 35 percent of state voters turned out to help Barack Obama defeat Hillary Rodham Clinton, and to give John McCain a decisive win over Mike Huckabee.
Today's primaries don't feature any such high-profile state races or pressing issues.
Still, 34 state Assembly and four congressional districts feature primaries. Those who vote will choose who fills open seats, whether some incumbents keep their jobs and who faces whom for control of the state Assembly in the November general election.
