Wisconsin Republicans Gather In Appleton For Annual State Convention

The Republican Party of Wisconsin state convention opens today in Appleton and runs through Sunday.

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was supposed to give the keynote speech today, but flooding in his home state prompted the change of plans.

Romney has been named as a potential candidate for president in 2008 and he is chairman of the Republican Governors Association.

GOP spokesman Bob Delaporte says Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee, will speak today in place of Romney.

Mehlman had been scheduled to speak at the convention tomorrow.
