As the school year comes to a close, several middle school students in Chippewa Falls are building a medieval piece of weaponry, called a trebuchet. It’s a French word for catapult.
The trebuchet was originally designed to hurl large objects to knock down a castle’s walls. When asked about the trebuchet’s size, student Dallas Webb said, “it’s big, I mean, you don’t really realize how big it’s going to be until you actually see it.”
Materials for this one were donated by Wisconsin’s Renaissance Fair organizers, and you’ll have a chance to see it starting June 17th at the event in Chippewa Falls.
The kids say while building the device has been a great learning experience…it’s also been a lot of fun.
