Local Red Cross Chapter Plans for Hurricane Season

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin begins his second term today with optimistic goals, as hurricane experts are predicting another active season.

With that in mind, the Chippewa Valley American Red Cross chapter is confident it's prepared to provide relief. The Midwest is considered to be a support service area for hurricane relief operations.

Last year 70 volunteers were on hand to help Katrina victims and more than $670,000 was raised. Emergency Services Director Jon Lee predicts even more help will be available this year.

"I think we're still a little sensitive to Katrina and I think that allows the public to be a little more informed and maybe a little more supportive and that point."

In the case of emergency locally or nationally, the Red Cross is always looking for volunteers and donations. You can visit www.redcross.org for more information.
