One of the top consumer complaints in Wisconsin is telemarketers. It goes without saying then that most people don't think too highly of them.

Most people cringe when they pick up the phone and hear a telemarketers voice. Charlton is a telemarketing firm or as they are called now, a customer sales and service representative company in Eau Claire. We got some employee's feelings about their job that is hated by so many.

Here’s what some people around town had to say about telemarketers:
“As far as telemarketers go I don't like them calling my house and I really hate when they call my cell phone.”
“I don't even say hello.”

When asked if they thought telemarketers liked their job they said, “Oh I don't know. I’m sure they hate it. I wouldn't want to do it!”

Roger Leonard started work as a customer service representative after he retired from 17 years as a resort operator. Leonard says he doesn't mind making his 150 plus calls a day and says people's reactions to his calls are just a part of the job.

“I did have one that had to excuse themselves because the dog they had in their house wasn't house trained and they had to quickly take the dog outside and then they come back and tell you what in plain language happened,” Leonard says.

Leonard says while all his stories aren't funny, he just doesn't concern himself with those who get angry with him.

“Well I never worry about that because I know they can't reach out of the phone receiver and grab me by the throat or anything like that. So no, its something you just kind of let it go in one ear and out the other and go on to the next call.”

Leonard and the operations manager at Charlton say they do abide by the No Call List and say they actually like the law, because it weeds out the people who aren't interested. However the manager also says he thinks people are actually happy to hear a human voice on the phone when they call for help instead of an email chat or other online help.
