Doyle Visits Families of Kids Living With Juvenile Diabetes
The Governor says stem cell research is the most promising research there is, but at least one other lawmaker disagrees. Posted: 7:03 PM Jun 13, 2006Reporter: Andrew Fefer |

As the debate in regard to whether new stem cell research should be federally funded rages on, Governor Jim Doyle is urging members of the U.S. Senate to vote and approve legislation to lift a ban on what he calls "life-saving research."
>
On Tuesday, Doyle visited families that have children who suffer from diabetes.
>
The kids in Eau Claire are involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
>
Their parents are hoping funding from the feds brings a cure someday.
>
Sharon McIlquham's 13-year old daughter Rachael lives with juvenile diabetes. "I'd give up the 15 years in a heartbeat and give them to her but I don't have that capability. But stem cell research might have that capability," she said.
>
"Stem cell research is the greatest hope these families have," the Governor said.
>
At least one lawmaker says he doesn't think stem cell research would produce a cure for decades, if ever.
>
"It really pains me to see that kind of politics going on because he's playing on the emotions of these people and that's a shame," said Republican Representitive Steve Kestell.
>
Doyle is calling for a Senate vote before members adjourn in August.
