A federal judge's decision that put wolves back on the endangered species list in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan upsets some people.
One person is northern Wisconsin sheep producer Merrill Rosenwinkel of Herbster. He says all it means is the wolves win. And they have already killed one of his sheep and caused numerous other problems for him.
Last week's ruling means the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources now can no longer manage wolves like it wants, which is allowing the killing of the problem ones that go after livestock, pets and even bear hunting dogs. The wolves were removed from the endangered list in March 2007.
The DNR says before last week's ruling, 45 problem wolves were killed in Wisconsin this year, mostly by government agents who trapped them near farms where they caused problems.
The agency's wolf expert, Adrian Wydeven, says the ruling will lead to an erosion of public support for wolves and could lead to more illegal killings.
Wydeven says 600 to 700 wolves now live in northern and central Wisconsin, roaming in 138 packs.
